When I was planning my own wedding (a "few" years ago, cough cough), I went to one of those large wedding shows. You know, the ones in the giant convention hall, with hundreds of vendors and thousands of attendees. It was an overwhelming nightmare of crowds and disinterested vendors, and everywhere, visions of weddings that didn't match my own. I left without booking anything and felt disgusted afterwards with the emails about "how great it was to meet me" - when I'd never spoken to these people at all!

If you are participating in wedding/bridal shows, large or small, here are some tips to get a bigger return on your investment: 

  •   Upfront planning and preparation.  Have a game plan for the show.  Know your goals, set-up, offers and who is doing what.

  •   Be prepared to do business.  Don’t come to a show just to get exposure and leads, look for a way to write business – so have contracts and forms available.

  •   Pre-show marketing.  Let people know you will be at the show – post it to social, send out emails to your database & let them know if you have any show specials you will be offering.
