When A Picture Is NOT Worth 1,000 Words

News Flash! While pretty wedding images on your blog are pretty and may get a couple’s attention it has zero SEO value.

Search engine web crawlers cannot read pretty pictures!

Images, even images with text overlaid on them read as a blank space on your website or blog. Blogs that have nothing but an image have no real value in terms of growing your website visibility.


The most productive way to change your blogs visibility is to add content supporting the images. Adding text that tells the story, adds descriptive terms about the images and is infused with targeted key words is fairly simple to do.

Describe what is being shown in the image and relate it back to whatever service or product you and your company provide whenever possible. You are essentially telling your story through the story of that couples wedding or the event.

As hard as that might be to understand initially, ultimately you need to look at images you cultivate from the wedding from the perspective of: What’s In It For Me?

How do these images support what it is that I do and showcase my work?

This way of thinking helps you to write in the third person and to develop text that is content rich and uses focused keywords and search terms that drive business to you.

The second, and most unfortunate mistake, has to do with the file names on your photographs. If you right click (or look at the file name) on a majority of wedding professional’s blog images they look something like:

“https://static.wixstatic.com/media/5748746~mv2_d_2448_3264_s_4_2.jpg”

There is nothing to search for in that file name. Renaming your photos to something containing your business name, a description of the image (white wedding cake, bride and groom at Liberty Bell, first dance) and a location (Philadelphia wedding planner, Franklin Institute Wedding) all add to the value of that image.

The third step would be adding value on the back end of your blogging platform, something the outside world does not see. All images posted into a blogging platform have TAGS, image tags are descriptive search terms.

TAGS are an additional layer of search terms you might have used in your photo name. It is a more in depth list of searchable terms that support the images you are using.
As much as these three steps may add a little time to your blogging process, the value you will add to your blog and Search Engine Optimization will be huge for your business.
